On the ninth day of Steampunk Christmas,
My true love gave to me:
Nine Steampunk Music Groups.
Steampunk music blurs the lines between fan music, filk, orchestral music, and industrial, (as well as many other genres) and it definitely does not lack in creativity. Here in no particular order are nine groups popular in the steampunk community.
Steam Powered Giraffe
Steam Powered Giraffe perform as musical automatons and their shows combine their original music with skits and dialogue.
Abney Park
Abney Park is probably the most known steampunk group, having formed as a goth group in 1997 and morphed into a steampunk band by 2005.
The Men That Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing
A British steampunk band, they made headlines in 2010 for releasing one of their songs on wax cylinder.
Professor Elemental
Professor Elemental is a chap-hop artist and is a popular performer at many steampunk events.
Unextraordinary Gentlemen
According to band members, Unextraordinary Gentlemen was formed to “…explore our love for post-punk, synth-pop, industrial & experimental music combined with the literary genre of Victorian fantasy.”
Unwoman
Unwoman combines haunting vocals with her lush cello to create a unique sound. She’s also a popular performer at steampunk events.
Vernian Process
Named after Jules Verne, the band combines a number of musical genres to create a steampunk sound.
The Cog is Dead
The Cog is Dead was formed in 2005 and combine influences from sources as wide as folk, ragtime, show tunes, and rock.
The Nathaniel Johnstone Band
Nathaniel Johnstone’s latest album is titled “The Antikythera Mechanism” and combines themes of Greek mythology with steampunk.
Lee Presson and the Nails
And one extra! Lee Presson and the Nails is not steampunk per se (maybe Dieselpunk era…), but the swing band has played at the Clockwork Alchemy con for several years and is always fun.
On the Eighth Day of Steampunk Christmas…
On the Seventh Day of Steampunk Christmas…
On the Sixth Day of Steampunk Christmas…
On the Fifth Day of Steampunk Christmas…
On the Fourth Day of Steampunk Christmas…
On the Third Day of Steampunk Christmas…
Awesome!! 😀
